Jan 3: Double Ess & fences

I'm still on 'hiatus' from work at the moment, and today my Aunt needed a ride to Charlottesville to the Amtrak station. I volunteered to take her, and on my way home, I took a few hours and did some shooting... So far this is the 'shot' that I like the best...

I like the motion implied in this crop, with the road and the fences.

At the same spot on the Blue Ridge parkway I played around a bit more with a similar section of fence:

Now, I 'm not sure which of these I like better.  I'm leaning towards the b&w over the subtle colors.

Favorite Mug

My friend Frank over on my woodworking haunt Familywoodworking.org posted a thread asking for a photo of your favorite coffee cup you use in the shop.

Hmmmm I said... and went and snapped these:

I Like the 1st shot best, since it also shows my midi lathe in the background. the 2nd shot shows the back of the mug (I'm right handed, so I only see the carpe lignum side)... I suppose the third shot shows the Mug itself the best, but it doesn't work as well as the first shot.

New Challenge A Photo a day for a year

Hi folks, I've decided to take the 'Photo a day' challenge that many photographers do. I haven't decided on all of the parameters, but check back daily for updates.

guess I'd better kit up, put my tripod in the buick so I can shoot some night shots and brush up on Gimp.

The rules, one published photo per day. Preferably shot and post processed that day.

Weather being what it is, however. Occasionally I'll publish one that I shot that didn't get published before.

been awhie

I've had a bunch of life changes in my world the past few months since I last posted. My lovely wife Lori and our youngest son Patrick have moved 500 miles south to be with my parents. In the process I've taken a new job, and am no longer a 'road photographer', though I both travel and do photography... these days I work for:

and while that is a 'good thing' in some respects, the jury is still out as to whether or not I'll stay there in the long run. I'm back doing 'real photography' again, but there are challenges, as in any job.

I miss some things from my job with Costar, and wish all of
my former co-workers and that company nothing but the Best!

These days I'm working at various church Fellowship Halls doing church directory photos for Olan Mills. here are a few images from my most recent church, Main Street United Methodist in Suffolk VA.

This was the brand new main entry Hall to the church. They united three buildings into one Large hall, and this space is just incredible:

I'm not sure what kind of tree this is.
