some recent shots

I was in downtown Gloversville the other day and came upon this alleyway. Now as you know I'm looking at buildings all day long at work. I don't get to see a lot of 'new' structures, especially in this area of NY.

I've learned to appreciate some of the features of the old ones, however. I love the texture and lighting of this shot, evidently there is a light well running all the way up in the center of the building.

I also manipulated it a bit...

Pocono shots

time stands still at PLP

here's a little vignette I had to shoot, and manipulate just a tad...

The camp we stayed in had some neat woodworking touches:

I can see making several of these... only with wooden support vs cast iron. It will look particularly nice in cherry.

I don't know what the wood is, I think Mahagony, very simple, yet very comfortable bench in front of the fireplace.

And there's the "Winter" camp.

further perspective

This shot and also 'Perspective' were done at the end of a very frustrating day at work. I can't use them for work, but they were too nice to go to digital oblivion. I might just print them out and put them up in my new shop one of these days.

Perspective

I like the lighting and the play of the lines

New Office

Well, at 8:05 this AM my Prius headed on down the road, and at around 6pm minutes before a thunderstorm this pulled into my driveway:

Oh what a difference that this will make in my daily routine. pesky thing has an alarm which I've yet to figure out, other than it works... DAMHIKT.

It also has a really cool office in the back: room for two to work at the desk, though 99.9% of the time I'll be in there solo. Love the new monitor, and both 'rear' chairs swivel to face the desk and also turn to the front for travel. Since I"m the driver, I won't get to ride back there, but they are very comfortable and even I've got more than enough legroom at the desk. Full size keyboard at the front station, which paradoxically uses the rear dock for the laptop.

speaking of which, here's the view from the tail of the van. ;

Parking sign

perhaps the wittiest sign I've seen lately. Located at the Traffic Safety police station in Albany NY.

oh look a bunny

The 'in' joke this past week between James and me has been a running take off on the schtick about ADHD.

'I'm not ADHD...

'oh look a Bunny!'

so... I simply 'had' to send him this shot from my cell phone today (same shot, only taken with my real camera)

Trip-tap-Trip-tap Billy Goats Gruff

Scored a prime parking spot today, despite only being partially under the bridge, I had good shade which really helps with the photoshopping. I kept wanting to lean out the window and ask Who's that coming across my Bridge?!

someday when the prius grows up....

Someday when the prius grows up, it wants to rush to the clarion call too!

I was walking back to the car when I heard quite a ruckus, there was a fire/rescue call at an apartment building near where I was parked.

Lori says that someday the watertown fire trucks will ripen and turn red.

Some days it is nice to work outside...

Sitting in my car today, I noticed this fellow out of the corner of my eye, managed to get one good shot of him, just barely.

Couple of new shots...

I found this building down in Binghamton the other day. As a Mason, I've recently been learning about styles of Architecture, and I'm honestly not sure What this one is, but I found it very attractive visually. There is just So much stuff going on with all of those columns and such. It looks like a dentist built it years ago, and it is one of the key buildings in downtown Binghamton. I love the colors and the busy nature of the building. It is to my eye, akin to the 'painted lady' Victorian houses of old.

Earlier the same day I happened upon a Hysterical Marker:

and the Tower for which it was placed, which was built to test telegraph transmission to Moving railway trains on the Lackawanna Railway. Binghamton has a huge railway presence to this day. Numerous low overpasses around down. I used to manage a trucking fleet which delivered to the area, and I had several trucks damage trailers under those rail bridges. Much to my drivers' and my chagrine.

Stonewalled

The other day I was toodling around southern Herkimer county, and happened upon this beautiful scene...

Now when it snows, I can't do photos for work, so these fence photos were just about the only shots I managed to get in that day.

For my Masonic Friends

Thought you might enjoy this one...

this archway is in Binghamton (one of at least two, that I've found so far). I'm not sure if it actually refers to Lodge, but it sure seemed neat to me.

remember, the building houses a sign shop...

I wonder just what the Bad News reporter asked?

oddball trailer hitch thing

I drive around all day, and I've trained myself to spot things out of the corner of my eye while safely navigating. I'm always on the lookout for leasing signs, but every once in awhile, something else catches my eye...

Silly thing is plugged into the trailer light circuit, and when he hit the brakes the dog wiggled!

can you spot the car?

One of my daily tasks is to document shopping centers, and one of the related tasks is to shoot a series of photos, stitch them together and make a 360 degree panorama. Normally that is a breeze, I just have to find a larger vehicle than my Prius, park behind it, and go shoot the required images. Well what do you do when the footprint of the building is large enough to require the image... but there's absolutely NO vehicles other than the rolling billboard in the parking lot?

A plow had been in there a couple of times, but not often and certainly not at the moment...

so...

can you see my solution and why I had to reshoot the whole thing?

Road Shots -the Beginning

Welcome friends to my new blog about the neat vistas and oddball shots which a research photographer sees during his travels. I work for the Costar Group, which is a commercial real estate information brokerage.

I travel around in my mobile office, a decked out and bedecked Toyota Prius, which is a 99% comfortable office to work in indeed. that 1% is that I really wish it had about an inch more legroom, as I'm 6'3" tall.

For those random viewers who might not know who the bunny ears artiste is, that's Patrick, my youngest son. (stepson, but that's only a technicality imnsho)

I'll try and post some interesting shots and so forth with a little story about each of them.

Today's first image is a shot which I took and then mildly photoshopped on my way home. It is a farm somewhere down in Chenango County NY, near Cincinnatus.
